Building the Right Legacy This New Year

As we venture in this uncharted New Year, many of us will be making New Year’s Resolutions about the things which are the most important to our lives. Often times we become so overwhelmed with the world expectations that we forget what is really important to us. We make New Year’s Resolution such as: get closer to God, do something good for others, build closer relationships with family, spend time with our children, help our neighbors, live a healthier lifestyle and improve our physique.

When asked what is most important in life, most people will say God, family, children, marriage and friendships.  Ultimately, you want the next twelve months to build on a lasting legacy. This legacy should not be self-serving. Instead, it should reflect the positive influences we had on others, especially our family. We want to look back on our lives and see the lives we’ve touched.  We want to know that our children have fond memories of us and that they use the very ideals we have taught them.  We want to leave behind a legacy of memories that can only be created by strong relationships and positive images of ourselves.

So at this time, as you think about your New Year’s Resolutions, please consider not just what you need or want, but what you can build.  Consider the legacy you want to leave behind and thrive to build it the right way. Consider how you can create that legacy through strong, close relationships with your spouse, children, friends, neighbors, coworkers and family members. Provide positive images of yourself to others by developing a healthy lifestyle. Remember that accomplishments come through hard work and dedication. However, by setting aside a little time each day to work on building positive relationships with yourself and other, you will be able to accomplish these most important things in your life.

Happy New Year from the Thrive Fitness family to yours!
