In our last blog, we looked into ways to stay motivated, including using contracts, friends, and taking the time to attack the specific things holding you back. Today, we have one more tip for you!
Truly Reward Yourself
- Sure, you’ll sleep better, have more energy, feel better about yourself, and enjoy better health when you work out. However, these nebulous goals usually aren’t enough for people. They need something more concrete and immediate. There is nothing wrong with that! It’s how we’re designed.
- The truth is, what you do after your workout is just as important as the workout itself. You need to reward yourself so your brain begins to connect fitness with the reward. Eventually, you may not have to reward yourself anymore (but feel free to!).
- Your reward may be a smoothie, a shower, a massage – whatever. It is completely up to you. Don’t worry if it seems silly. Your body doesn’t care; it’s getting a workout. If it works, it works!
The key to getting motivated is finding what works uniquely for you. If something that worked for someone doesn’t work for you, don’t get discouraged. Be persistent and honest with yourself, and you’ll find a motivation that gets you going every time!
