We all look toward summer as a time to get fit and stay that way. The days are longer and culturally, being outside during summer is a must. The thing is, in Georgia “summer” is a nice way to say “humid inferno.” Our summers are already hot because of our geographical location. Add in the humidity, and the heat just doesn’t quit. Many people flee to air-conditioned gyms and fitness studios like Thrive Fitness. However, sometimes, you have no choice but to be active in the great outdoors. If this happens, you need to be smart about it.
In our last blog, we discussed the importance of when it’s best to work out and the value of sunscreen. Today, we have two more tips for you.
Check the weather
Don’t just assume it’s going to be hot. Sometimes, there’s significant pollution, too, especially around large cities like Atlanta. Watch for heat advisories, which warn of high pollution and ozone, which can hurt your lungs. It’s not worth damaging yourself to get an outdoor workout in.
Wear light colors
There’s all kinds of fitness clothing to choose from these days, and some of it is very high-tech. No matter what you can afford, make sure it’s light-colored enough to reflect heat away from your body. Take advantage of as many effective moisture-wicking materials as you can. Your body will be working hard, and anything you can do to help it out is worthwhile.
